"Custom Mirrors", Port Credit Village Times, V. 2 Ed. 2, April 2008.

Spring is in the air and this is the perfect season for organization and redecorating.  Re-framing pictures or framing new pictures can bring a breath of fresh air to your home or office, giving you the feel of much needed change to your space.  The perfect way to bring the light of spring into your home is by adding a mirror.  Increasingly I am building more and more custom mirrors for our clients.  There are a lot of mirrors out there for sale, but good luck finding one the right style and colour, let alone size!  It can be very difficult, which is why we continue to offer custom mirrors to our clients.

Mirrors can bring light and a feeling of space to any area of your home.  They look great in hallways, dinning rooms, foyers, etc.  Often we build mirrors to replace old/existing washroom mirrors as well.  You would be surprised how adding an interesting frame around a mirror can completely change a powder room.

The best part of a custom mirror is that it really is custom.  You choose the frame and size, it is that simple.  When deciding on a custom mirror new problems arise as the options are unlimited.  You are no longer restricted to what you can find on the wall of retail outlets, and you can let your creativity take charge.  Frame choices are endless, and we always recommend that you bring home some samples to see them in your space before ordering your mirror.  Limit yourself to your top few choices as to not confuse yourself when you get home.  Then live with the samples for a few days so you are able to see them at different times of the day and in different lighting conditions.  After all, you are going custom so you should get exactly what you want.

Once you decide on the frame, you need to confirm the size.  Although it may be difficult visualize we suggest that our clients use painters tape on the wall to mark out the space that will be covered by the mirror.  This will allow you to stand back and try to envision what your space will look like.  Adjust the tape until you feel comfortable with the size, and then measure the dimensions.  Your custom mirror can be created to your exact dimensions.

When installing your finished product due to the weight of larger mirrors it might be a good idea to consult with someone to determine the proper mounting method that should be used.  Contacting an installation service such as www.artstall.ca (905-599-8877) might be beneficial.

Above all, always remember there is more than one perfect frame design for each piece. Keep an open mind, and it should feel right when you see the right frame design. Also, you should feel comfortable with whoever is working with you to create the perfect design. Professional custom frame design takes patience, time, skill, creativity and vision.
